Hiking tour around Asraf - 2 days

This two days trip to Uzbek countryside gives you great chance to get to know the daily livelihood activities of people living in a remote village of Nuratau Mountains range. You can watch or participate in the preparation of traditional meals from home produced vegetables during your stay with local a family. Your host will take you to a short hike to the mountains to explore surrounding area of the village.

Quick Itinerary

Day 1 - Samarkand or Bukhara –Asraf village
Arrive in Araf village and settle in Yahshigul's homestay 
Walk around to get to know the village and people relax on the tapchan or supa under the walnut trees. Help or watch to prepare traditional dish. 

Day 2 - Asraf village- Bukhara or Samarkand
After breakfast, start easy guided hike to explore the next village Eski Forish, en route visit to local sights. Return to the homestay and, leave for next destination after lunch.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 - Samarkand or Bukhara –Asraf village

Arrive in a tiny Nuratau Mountain village called Asraf.
After being welcomed by your host family settle in  Yahshigul’s homestay. The homestay has a large garden with many fruit trees where you can spend some time to relax on one of the tapchans (comfortable tea beds) or on a supa (traditional loom built tea bed). After having settled, your host will show you their facilities. Lunch with the local family. After lunch, walk around the village to learn about the daily livelihood activities and land use practices of the villagers (collecting firewood, harvesting, butter making, corn grinding, spinning, weaving, preserving of fruits, silk worm raring in spring). In the afternoon, you may watch or help the family in the preparation of traditional dish Plov from homegrown vegetables and mountain spices.
Dinner with your hosts.
Overnight stay in Yahshigul’s homestay. 

Day 2 - Asraf village- Bukhara or Samarkand

Breakfast with the family. Today your escort guide will take you to a guided hike vis the buffer zone of Nuratau Nature Reserve to the next village of Eski Forish (one way 5, 5 km/2 hours). Particularly in spring, you can see the diverse flora and fauna of the region and admire lush green landscape. You have a great view of Lake Aydar and the vast plains of the Kyzylkum steppe. On the way, see ancient petroghlyps site that is an indicator of the ancient settlement history of the area. Visit the ruins of a medieval look-out point in Eski Forish, which was used to observe the Kyzyl-Kum plains to avoid sudden attacks of the steppe nomads. Return to Asraf village and have lunch with the family.
Say goodbye to your hosts and leave for the next destination.
