Discover the Nuratau Mountains on this 3-Day Hiking Tour with Homestay & Yurt Stay, a balanced mix of culture, comfort, and outdoor adventure. Travel into the Uzbek countryside, where you’ll enjoy a warm homestay on the first night and a comfortable yurt stay on the second, surrounded by peaceful mountain scenery and village life.

Your hiking adventure begins from a cosy village homestay, decorated in traditional Uzbek style. From here, follow scenic trails through valleys and ridges, with panoramic views of Lake Aydarkul, the Nuratau Mountains, and the vast Kyzyl-Kum steppe.

A rewarding 15 km loop hike on the second day leads you to Sayyod Yurt Camp, a modern mountain yurt camp with an outdoor swimming pool and optional activities such as cooking classes, bike rides, stargazing with a telescope, and relaxed evenings around the campfire.

On the final day, visit the shores of Lake Aydarkul, where you can stroll along the water’s edge and, weather permitting, enjoy a refreshing swim. A stop in historic Nurata adds a cultural touch, with fortress ruins, a sacred spring, and a medieval mosque. This 3-day itinerary is ideal for travellers seeking hiking in Uzbekistan combined with local life—an engaging hiking adventure in the heart of the Nuratau region.

Day 1 – Samarkand to Sayyod Village: Depart Samarkand at 9:00 AM and drive to Sayyod Village Homestay, arriving around 12:30 PM. After lunch, enjoy a 6 km (3-hour) hike in the Nuratau Mountains, then return for a relaxing evening and home-cooked dinner.

Day 2 – Loop Hike Ending at Sayyod Yurt Camp: In the morning, take a medium–difficult 15 km (7-hour) hike to the mountain plateau with views of Lake Aydarkul and the Nuratau Mountains, picnic en route. The hike ends at Sayyod Yurt Camp, where you will stay overnight.

Day 3 – Sayyod to Bukhara via Lake Aydarkul and Nurata: In the morning, depart for Bukhara, stopping at Lake Aydarkul for a short visit or a swim, weather permitting. Continue to Nurata to explore a local site, then arrive in Bukhara by late afternoon.

Trip Details

  • Tour Dates: Group departures are available every Monday and Thursday from April to October.
  • Seasonal Considerations: The best seasons for this tour are April–May and September–October.

  • Meeting Point and Time: In Samarkand, meet at 8:40 AM at Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum. Upon request, private and small groups (2-3 participants) can be picked up from their hotels. The departure time is 9:00 A.M.
  • Ending Point: In Bukhara, you will be dropped off at Lyabi Haus Pool around 6:00 PM. Small groups (2-3 participants) can be dropped off at their hotels upon request.

Disclaimer: This tour usually starts in Samarkand but can also begin in Bukhara. If starting in Bukhara, and Nurata are visited on Day 1.


  • Accommodations: 1 night in homestay, 1 night at Sayyod Yurt Camp, with private yurts allocated for each group (2-4 persons per yurt).
  • Meals: 2 breakfasts, 3 lunches, 2 dinners. Vegetarian and vegan options are available upon request.
  • Entrance tickets in Nurata city.
  • Guided Tours: A local mountain escort guide will accompany you on hikes during Days 1 and 2.
  • Transportation: Transfers include:
    • From Samarkand to Sayyod village.
    • From Sayyod to Bukhara via Lake Aydarkul and Nurata.
  • Registration: The registration will be issued by the homestay owner and the staff of the Sayyod Yurt Camp, please present your passport upon arrival.

  • Travel Insurance: We want you to have a safe and worry-free adventure, so we kindly ask all participants to have travel insurance. It’s a simple way to ensure you’re protected and can fully enjoy your activities with peace of mind.
  • Optional Activities: Additional activities offered at the camp are available at an extra charge.
  • Tips: Tipping is not mandatory but is a thoughtful way to show appreciation for the services provided by guides, drivers, and hosts. A general guideline is €4–€9 per person per day, depending on your satisfaction with the service.

  • Homestay Details: The homestay has 3 basic rooms with comfortable beds. Towels and bedding are provided. Each room has its own private toilet and shower.
  • Yurt Camp Details: The camp features 14 yurts with a communal ablution block located separately. Bedding and towels are provided for your comfort. Enjoy complimentary amenities such as free Wi-Fi, an outdoor swimming pool, mountain bike ride, a fireplace, and various seating areas in the garden. Guests can also use a small telescope for star gazing, play table tennis, or practice archery at no additional cost. Optional activities like cooking classes are available for an extra fee.
  • Cultural Experience: The tour includes visits to historical sites in Nurata, with lunch at a local family’s home. The homestay in Sayyod offers great opportunity to learn about local people, their culture and traditions.

  • Transport Details: For groups of 2-3 participants, transportation is provided by sedan car. For groups of 4 or more, a minibus is used.
  • In-Tour Transport: Local drivers for smaller groups will not stay at homestay and the yurt camp, while minibus drivers will remain at the camp as they are not locals.

  • Guide Information: A local mountain guide with basic English proficiency will meet you at 9:00 A.M on the first and second days to lead the hikes.

  • Minimum and Maximum Participants: The tour operates with a minimum of 2 participants and a maximum of 12 participants.

  • Fitness Level:
    • Day 1 Hike: Moderate difficulty. Length: 6 km (approximately 3.7 miles). Duration: ~3 hours. Elevation gain: 327 m (1,073 feet). Elevation loss: 328 m (1,076 feet). Suitable for individuals aged 12 and above with reasonable fitness levels
    • Day 2 Hike: Challenging difficulty. Length: 15 km (approximately 9.4 miles). Duration: ~ 7 hours. Elevation gain: 1,471 m (4,826 feet). Elevation loss: 1,475 m (4,839 feet). Suitable for individuals aged 16 and above with a high level of physical fitness and hiking experience.

  • Clothing:
    • Spring (April-May) and Autumn (September-October): Layered clothing to accommodate varying temperatures. Pack long-sleeved shirts, a light jacket or sweater for cooler mornings and evenings, and comfortable trousers.
    • Summer (June-August): Lightweight, breathable clothing such as cotton or linen shirts and trousers. A wide-brimmed hat or cap is essential for
      sun protection. Consider bringing a light scarf or shawl for additional coverage.
  • Footwear: Ordinary trainer shoes are suitable for these hikes.
  • Other Essentials: Bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a reusable water bottle, and a phone charger.

  • Luggage Transport: Your luggage will be transported by car during the tour. During the hike from Homestay to Sayyod Yurt Camp, we will transport your luggage by car.
  • Size and Weight Limits: It’s advisable to pack light for ease of travel. A medium-sized suitcase or backpack should suffice for the duration of the tour.

3-Day Hiking Tour with Homestay & Yurt Stay

Day 1 – Samarkand – Sayyod Village

At 9:00 AM meet your driver at the tour starting point and start driving to Sayyod village, located in the Nuratau Mountains. Arrive around lunchtime, settle into your homestay with rooms beautifully decorated in traditional style, offering a comfortable and authentic experience. Take some time to explore the village and enjoy its tranquil mountain surroundings.

In the afternoon, set off on an easy 3-hour, 6 km hike through the stunning Nuratau Mountains. The trail begins at the homestay, winding gently through a picturesque valley. As you ascend, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, including distant glimpses of Lake Aydarkul and neighboring villages. The hike reaches a high point, perfect for capturing panoramic photos and soaking in the picturesque views.

After returning to the homestay, enjoy a hearty dinner featuring local flavors.

Day 2 – Loop Hike Ending at Sayyod Yurt Camp

In the morning, set off on a medium–difficult 15 km (7-hour) loop hike to the mountain plateau, traversing valleys and ridges with sweeping views of the Kyzyl-Kum steppe, Lake Aydarkul, the Nuratau Mountains, and nearby villages. A picnic lunch will be served en route. The hike ends at Sayyod Yurt Camp, where you will stay overnight and relax. Optional activities are available, such as cooking classes, bike rides, and stargazing with a telescope; if the weather allows, you can also enjoy a refreshing swim in the outdoor pool and spend the evening around the campfire.

Day 3 – Sayyod Yurt Camp – Bukhara via Lake Aydarkul

After breakfast, depart from the Sayyod Yurt Camp and head towards Bukhara, with a stop at Lake Aydarkul along the way. Take time to walk along the lake shores and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. If the weather is warm, you can also take a refreshing swim in the lake.

Next, continue to Nurata, where you’ll enjoy a traditional lunch at a local family restaurant. After lunch, explore Nurata’s key attractions on your own. The visits include the ruins of a fort believed to have been built by Alexander the Great, holly spring and medieval mosque located close to each other.

Continue your journey to Bukhara, arriving in the late afternoon.
