Visas

Nationals of EU countries and several Asian countries do not require a visa to enter Uzbekistan. Other nationalities may be eligible for visa-free entry or can apply for an e-visa through a simple online process. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned date of entry. For the latest visa requirements, visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

Money

The official currency is the Uzbekistani Som (UZS). Cash is widely used, especially in bazaars, small shops, and local restaurants. ATMs are now available in most cities and function reliably, accepting Visa and Mastercard. However, rural areas may lack ATM access, so carrying some cash is advisable. USD is the easiest currency to exchange at authorized exchange offices.

Credit cards are increasingly accepted in larger hotels and modern restaurants, but cash remains the preferred payment method in many local establishments. Be cautious of counterfeit notes and always double-check your change.

Food and Dietary Requirements

The Central Asian diet, including Uzbekistan, is traditionally centered around meat-based dishes such as kebabs, plov (rice with meat and vegetables), and lagman (noodle soup). While vegetarian options are available, they may be limited to simple dishes like plain noodles, bread, fresh fruit, nuts, yogurt, cheese, and eggs.

We make every effort to accommodate dietary needs during our tours. If you have specific requirements, such as vegan, gluten-free, or allergy-related restrictions, please inform us in advance. This allows us to coordinate with local providers and ensure suitable options are available for your meals. Additionally, you may choose to bring supplementary snacks or stock up on supplies from local markets and supermarkets during your journey.

Registration in Uzbekistan

Visitors must register their stay in Uzbekistan. Hotels and official accommodations handle this process automatically and will provide you with a registration slip or proof of stay. These documents must be retained throughout your trip and may be requested upon departure. For private stays, you must register with the local authorities within 72 hours of arrival. Ensure each accommodation provides proper registration for your entire stay.

Luggage Allowance on Internal Flights

For internal flights, the standard luggage allowance is 20 kg (44 lbs) for checked baggage and 5 kg (11 lbs) for carry-on. Excess baggage fees apply and are calculated per kilogram. Carry-on bags should meet airline size restrictions, as overhead storage space can be limited on domestic flights. Confirm specific luggage policies with your airline before travel to avoid unexpected fees.

Health and Vaccination Information

No mandatory vaccinations are required to enter Uzbekistan. However, routine immunizations, including tetanus, diphtheria, and hepatitis A/B, are recommended. Some travelers may consider vaccinations for typhoid or rabies, depending on their itinerary and activities. Consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice.

Carry essential medications in their original packaging along with any prescriptions, as some drugs may not be available locally. Ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance that includes medical emergencies and evacuation coverage. Stay hydrated, avoid tap water, and exercise caution with ice and street food to minimize the risk of illness.

Climate and Packing Tips

Uzbekistan has a continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best seasons to visit, offering mild weather and ideal conditions for sightseeing.

  • Spring/Autumn: Pack lightweight clothing, a light jacket, and sturdy walking shoes.
  • Summer: Include breathable fabrics, a wide-brimmed hat, high-SPF sunscreen, and sunglasses. Temperatures can exceed 35°C (95°F).
  • Winter: Bring warm layers, a heavy coat, gloves, and insulated footwear, as temperatures can drop below freezing.

Cultural Etiquette

  • Dress Code: When visiting mosques or sacred sites, dress modestly. Both men and women should cover their shoulders and knees, and women may need to cover their heads with a scarf. Avoid tight or revealing clothing. Shoes are typically removed before entering prayer areas, so wear easily removable footwear.
  • Behavior: Be respectful of local customs by maintaining a quiet demeanor, following signs and instructions, and refraining from taking photos without permission, particularly during prayers or ceremonies.
