During your stay, enjoy the comfort of a local homestay where friendly hosts prepare delicious Uzbek meals made from homegrown produce. Guests can also join in cooking activities like preparing Uzbek traditional dish – plov, turning mealtime into a shared and memorable experience. In the evening, relax in a cozy, traditionally decorated room and enjoy the peaceful sounds of the village night.
The next morning, take a gentle hike with a local guide through the nearby hills. Enjoy a 6 km hike with wide views of valleys, mountain ridges, and distant Lake Aydarkul — a great way to experience Uzbekistan’s natural beauty.

Day 1 – Samarkand to Sayyod Village Homestay: At 9:00 a.m., meet your driver and drive to Sayyod Village Homestay. After a traditional lunch, take a guided village walk, then in the evening help prepare a traditional meal and enjoy a warm family dinner. Overnight at the homestay.

Day 2 – Morning Hike & Transfer from Sayyod Village to Bukhara: After breakfast, enjoy a scenic 6 km (around 3 hours) hike in the Nuratau Mountains. Return to the homestay for a relaxing lunch, then depart for your transfer back to Bukhara.

Trip Details

  • Tour Dates: Group departures are available all year round.
  • Seasonal Considerations: The optimal seasons for this tour are March to May and September to November.

Private tours can be organized starting from any date. 


  • Meeting Point and Time: In Samarkand, meet at 8:40 AM at Gur Amir Mausoleum. Upon request, private and small groups (2-3 participants) can be picked up from their hotels. The departure time is 9:00 AM.
  • Ending Point: In Bukhara, you will be dropped off at Lyabi Haus Pool around 6:00 PM. Upon request, private and small groups (2-3 participants) can be dropped off at their hotels.

Disclaimer: This tour starts in Samarkand but can also begin in Bukhara when booked privately.


  • Accommodations: Overnight in the local Homestay.
  • Meals: 1 breakfast, 2 lunches, 1 dinner. Vegetarian and vegan options are available upon request.
  • Guided Tours: A local mountain escort guide will accompany you on hikes for 2 days.
  • Transportation: Transfers include:
    • From Samarkand to Sayyod Village
    • From Sayyod Village to Bukhara
  • Registration: The registration will be issued by the homestay owner, please present your passport upon arrival.

  • Personal Expenses: Items of a personal nature.
  • Travel Insurance: We want you to have a safe and worry-free adventure, so we kindly ask all participants to have travel insurance. It’s a simple way to ensure you’re protected and can fully enjoy your activities with peace of mind.
  • Tips: Tipping is not mandatory but is a thoughtful way to show appreciation for the services provided by guides, drivers, and hosts. A general guideline is €4–€9 per person per day, depending on your satisfaction with the service.

  • Homestay Details: The homestay features 3 traditionally decorated rooms with beds. The towels and bedding are provided. Most rooms have private showers and toilets. During the summer months, meals are served in the garden on tapchans (traditional wooden sitting platforms); in colder months, meals are served in the kitchen. The homestay has no cellphone reception.
  • Amenities: The homestay offers free Wi-Fi and garden seating areas, including tapchans and chairs.
  • Cultural Experience: Guests are welcome to join the host family in preparing traditional meals or assisting with daily household chores.

  • Transport Details: For groups of 2-3 participants, transportation is provided by an air-conditioned sedan car. For groups of 4 or more, a minibus is used.
  • In-Tour Transport: Local drivers for smaller groups will not stay at the homestays, while minibus drivers will remain at the homestays as they are not locals.

  • Guide Information: A local mountain guide with basic English will meet you after lunch on the first day and at 9:00 AM on the second day to lead the hikes.

  • Minimum and Maximum Participants: The tour operates with a minimum of 2 participants and a maximum of 12 participants.

  • Fitness Level: The tour includes a 6-kilometer (approximately 5-mile) guided hike, estimated to take around 3 hours. This hike is considered moderate in difficulty, requiring participants to be comfortable walking on uneven terrain and gentle inclines. A reasonable level of cardiovascular fitness is recommended to maintain a steady pace throughout the hike.
  • Age Restrictions: The tour is suitable for individuals aged 12 and above.
  • Experience: No prior hiking experience is necessary. The tour is designed for travelers interested in cultural immersion and light outdoor activities. However, familiarity with walking longer distances can enhance the experience.

  • Clothing:
    • Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November): Layered clothing to accommodate varying temperatures. Pack long-sleeved shirts, a light jacket or sweater for cooler mornings and evenings, and comfortable trousers.
    • Summer (June-August): Lightweight, breathable clothing such as cotton or linen shirts and trousers. A wide-brimmed hat or cap is essential for sun protection. Consider bringing a light scarf or shawl for additional coverage.
  • Footwear: Comfortable trainer shoes are recommended for exploring the village’s uneven terrain.
  • Other Essentials: Ensure you bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a reusable water bottle.

  • Luggage Transport: Your luggage will be transported by car during the tour. Hikes are conducted around the homestay, allowing you to store your luggage securely at the homestay.
  • Size and Weight Limits: It’s advisable to pack light for ease of travel. A medium-sized suitcase or backpack should suffice for the duration of the tour.

2-Day Sayyod village hiking tour

Day 1 – Samarkand to Sayyod Village Homestay

At 9:00 AM meet your driver at the tour starting point and start driving to Sayyod village homestay, located in the heart of the mountains. Upon arrival around lunchtime, settle local homestay, beautifully decorated in traditional nomadic style, offering a comfortable and authentic experience.

After lunch, set off on a guided walk through Sayyod village. During the walk, you will stop at the village’s old mosque, and you will also visit the workshop of local woodcarver Erman Bo‘ronov, where you can see his beautiful woodwork and  the carving process in action. Your guide will then lead you through the narrow village lanes, where you can observe the building style of the local houses and see every day rural life. This is a great opportunity to experience authentic village culture.

In the evening, return to the homestay and join the family in preparing a traditional meal, followed by a delicious dinner with a friendly atmosphere. Overnight at the homestay in Sayyod.

Day 2 – Morning Hike & Transfer from Sayyod Village to Bukhara

After breakfast with your host family, meet your mountain guide for a scenic hike to the Nuratau Mountains. This invigorating hike covers a distance of approximately 6 kilometers, lasting around 2,5 – 3 hours.  The trail begins at the homestay, winding gently through a picturesque valley. As you ascend, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, including distant glimpses of Lake Aydarkul and neighboring villages. The hike reaches a high point, perfect for capturing panoramic photos and soaking in the picturesque views.

Head back to the homestay for a final traditional lunch with your host family, taking time to say goodbye before you are transferred back to Bukhara.

Resume your journey to Bukhara, arriving in the late afternoon.
