Day 1 – Transfer from Bukhara to Hayat Village: At 9:00 AM, meet our driver at the designated meeting point and depart for Hayat village. Arrive around lunchtime and settle into your homestay. In the afternoon, you can explore the village independently: visit the enclosure for endangered wild sheep, see the ruins of the old fortress, and walk through the nearby abandoned villages.

Please note: this day is self-guided. Your guided activities will begin on the following day.

Day 2 – Hike to Uhum and transfer to Sayyod Village: After breakfast, set off on an easy guided hike into the Nuratau Nature Reserve. Along the way, you will see ancient irrigation channels, a petroglyph site, and the mausoleum of Islamic priests. Return to the homestay for lunch. In the afternoon, transfer by car to Sayyod village. Settle into your homestay and take some time to explore the village. In the evening, enjoy a home-cooked dinner with a local family.

Day 3 – Hike in Sayyod and transfer to Samarkand: In the morning, start a 3-hour (approx. 6 km) hike in the surrounding mountains. You will return to the homestay around lunchtime. After lunch, your driver will take you back to your hotel in Samarkand (about 3 hours’ drive).

  • Tour Dates: Group departures are available all year around.
  • Seasonal Considerations: The optimal seasons for this tour are March – May and September – November.

Private tours can be organized starting from any date. 


  • Meeting Point and Time: In Bukhara, meet at 8:40 AM at the statue of Nasreddin near Lyabi Hauz Pool. Upon request, private and small groups (2-3 participants) can be picked up from their hotels. The departure time is 9:00 AM.
  • Ending Point: In Samarkand, you will be dropped off at Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum at around 12:00 PM. Upon request, private and small groups (2-3 participants) can be dropped off at their hotels.

  • Accommodations: 2 night accommodation in the local homestays
  • Meals: 2 breakfast, 3 lunches, and 2 dinners. Vegetarian and vegan options are available upon request.
  • Guided Tours: A local mountain escort guide will accompany you on the hike during Day 2 and 3.
  • Transportation: Transfers include:
    • From Bukhara to Hayat Village Homestay
    • From Hayat village to Sayyod village
      From Sayyod village to Samarkand
  • Registration: The registration will be issued by the homestay owner, please present your passport upon arrival.

  • Personal Expenses: Items of a personal nature.
  • Travel Insurance: We want you to have a safe and worry-free adventure, so we kindly ask all participants to have travel insurance. It’s a simple way to ensure you’re protected and can fully enjoy your activities with peace of mind.
  • Tips: Tipping is not mandatory but is a thoughtful way to show appreciation for the services provided by guides, drivers, and hosts. A general guideline is €4–€9  per person per day, depending on your satisfaction with the service.

  • Homestay Details: You will stay in two different homestays, each offering 4 to 6 traditionally decorated rooms with comfortable beds. Towels and bedding are provided. Communal toilets and showers are conveniently located in the yard. In warmer months, meals are served in the garden on tapchans—traditional wooden sitting platforms—while in cooler periods, dining takes place in the kitchen. The first homestay provides UzMobile cellular network coverage, and the second offers UMS network access.
  • Amenities: The homestays offer basic internet access via mobile networks, suitable primarily for checking messages. The gardens feature seating areas, including traditional tapchans and chairs, providing comfortable spots to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
  • Cultural Experience: Guests are welcome to join the host family in preparing traditional meals or assisting with daily household chores.

  • Transport Details: For groups of 2-3 participants, transportation is provided by an air-conditioned sedan car. For groups of 4 or more, a minibus is used.
  • In-Tour Transport: Local drivers for smaller groups will not stay at the homestays, while minibus drivers will remain at the homestays as they are not locals.

  • Guide Information: A local mountain guide with basic English proficiency will meet you at 9:00 AM on Day 2 and 3 to lead the hike.

  • Minimum and Maximum Participants: The tour operates with a minimum of 2 participants and a maximum of 12 participants.

  • Fitness Level:
    • Day 2 Hike: Moderate difficulty. Length: 12 km (approximately 7.4 miles). Duration: ~4.5 hours.
    • Day 3 Hike: Moderate difficulty. Length: 6 km (approximately 3.7 miles). Duration: ~3 hours. Elevation gain: 327 m (1,073 feet). Elevation loss: 328 m (1,076 feet).
  • Age Restrictions: The tour is suitable for individuals aged 12 and above.
  • Experience: No prior hiking experience is necessary. The tour is designed for travelers interested in cultural immersion and light outdoor activities. However, familiarity with walking longer distances can enhance the experience.

  • Clothing:
    • Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November): Layered clothing to accommodate varying temperatures. Pack long-sleeved shirts, a light jacket or sweater for cooler mornings and evenings, and comfortable trousers.
    • Summer (June-August): Lightweight, breathable clothing such as cotton or linen shirts and trousers. A wide-brimmed hat or cap is essential for sun protection. Consider bringing a light scarf or shawl for additional coverage.
  • Footwear: Comfortable trainer shoes are recommended for exploring the village’s uneven terrain.
  • Other Essentials: Ensure you bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a reusable water bottle.

  • Luggage Transport: Your luggage will be transported by car during the tour. Hikes are conducted around the homestay, allowing you to store your luggage securely at the homestay.
  • Size and Weight Limits: It’s advisable to pack light for ease of travel. A medium-sized suitcase or backpack should suffice for the duration of the tour.

Your 3-Day Rural Homestay in Nuratau Mountain Villages Hayat & Sayyod Itinerary

Day 1 – Transfer from Bukhara to Hayat Village

At 9:00 AM, meet our driver at the designated meeting point and depart for Hayat village. You arrive around lunchtime, where your host will welcome you and show you the homestay facilities so you can settle in. The homestay has six simple but comfortable guestrooms, furnished with carpets, kupacha mattresses, and pillows. The owner, Parda Musaev, also works as a warden in the Nuratau Nature Reserve.

After lunch, take a leisurely walk through the village and visit the nearby breeding enclosure of the highly endangered Severtsov’s wild sheep. According to official statistics, around 2,000 wild sheep live outside the enclosure in the Nuratau valleys. You then continue up to the ruins of the fortress Shaxi Korgon on the hill opposite the enclosure, from where you can see abandoned houses that once belonged to families resettled in the 1950s by the Soviet government. Your walk continues up Hayat Valley, where you can enjoy the diverse flora and fauna and the lush green landscape, especially in spring.

In the late afternoon, return to the homestay and relax in the shady garden along the mountain brook, resting on tapchans or benches. In the evening, enjoy a home-cooked dinner with your host family.

Day 2 – Hike to Uhum and transfer to Sayyod Village

After breakfast, set off on a guided hike to the buffer zone of the Nuratau Nature Reserve. The route is about 12 km and takes roughly 4 hours at a relaxed pace. Along the way, you will see ancient irrigation channels that have supported local agriculture for generations, rock petroglyphs that recall early settlements in the area, and the small mausoleum of an Islamic priest, reflecting the spiritual history of the region.

You return to the homestay around midday and share lunch with your host family. In the afternoon, you are driven to Sayyod village. On arrival, you settle into your new homestay and can take a short walk around the village or simply relax and enjoy the calm mountain atmosphere. In the evening, a traditional dinner is served at the homestay.

Hike: 12 km / approx. 4 hours

Day 3 – Hike in Sayyod and transfer to Samarkand

After breakfast, you start an easy circular hike in the surrounding hills. The route is about 6 km and takes around 3 hours, with gentle ascents and descents. From the viewpoints, you can enjoy wide panoramas of the Nuratau Mountains and, on clear days, distant views towards Lake Aydarkul. This final walk is a chance to soak up the landscape and peaceful atmosphere before returning to the city.

You return to the homestay in time for lunch. In the early afternoon, your driver picks you up and transfers you back to Samarkand, where your mountain adventure comes to an end.
